Do you know the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist?
The Letters R.D. (Registered Dietitian) after a person's name represents he or she has completed a 4 year college degree in food science or human nutrition, after which they must have completed a minimum of a 900 hour internship, which trains and supervises their work in every area of dietetics and nutrition practice. They must also then pass a national qualifying examination and to retain R.D. status they must complete many hours of continuing education to keep pace with the changes in the field.
All Registered Dietitians who are providing nutritional advice are technically "nutritionists". But not all nutritionists are Registered Dietitians. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist and hang out a sign, without meeting any education or training standards.
L.D. (Licensed Dietitian) is a requirement to practice in the state of Ohio
